59th Ordinary session of the African Commission on Human and People's Rights

As part of activities to celebrate the African Year of Human Rights with Particular Focus on the Rights of Women, the African Commission, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child
(the Child (the African Court) have synchronized their commemorative Sessions to hold simultaneously October/November 2016 to mark this historic occasion.

The three Institutions will hold a Joint Opening Ceremony, followed by a Human Rights Dialogue on the theme of the Year, involving all stakeholders including NGOS.

The dialogue will take place in an open session on 22nd October 2016, and, starting from the 23rd, all Mechanisms will be making presentations on the progress and challenges in the promotion and protection of the rights dealt with by Special Mechanisms, particularly focusing on women.

Participants will be given the opportunity to make interventions after the presentations of the special mechanisms. There will also be other commemorative activities by the African Court.
